7 fireworks safety tips

July 02, 2024

Summary

Be safe with fireworks this 4th of July

The 4th of July is a fun weekend full of barbecues, fireworks and fun with your friends and family. We want you to enjoy your time away from work, but please be safe – especially with fireworks! Here are a few tips to remember:

  • Never give fireworks to small children.
  • Do not throw or point a firework toward people, animals, vehicles, structures or flammable materials.
  • Keep a supply of water (bucket or hose) close by.
  • Make sure the person lighting fireworks always wears eye protection.
  • Light only one firework at a time and never attempt to relight “a dud.”
  • Store fireworks in a cool, dry place away from children and pets.
  • Never use fireworks around pets, keep pets indoors.

If any burns or trauma do happen, seek medical attention immediately. Sadly, thousands of injuries occur due to fireworks each year. And please remember that pets, veterans and others may find fireworks triggering. So be mindful of those around you.

Stay safe and have fun this weekend!
