Meet Amanda Corral, Primary Care and Chronic Disease Management Specialist in Chicago
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in medicine?
I was inspired to pursue a career in medicine through personal experiences as a patient that had a positive impact on me. I was also drawn to the opportunity to make a difference in patients’ lives while working in a field that is constantly evolving and encourages lifelong learning and continuous growth.
Q: What is your approach to patient care?
I take a patient-centered approach to care, focusing on listening closely to each patient’s concerns and providing clear, evidence-based guidance. I aim to build trusting relationships and involve patients in decisions about their health so they feel informed, supported, and empowered.
Q: What areas of health do you specialize in?
I am passionate about preventive medicine, done through patient education and partnering with patients to identify risk factors early and support healthy lifestyle changes. I also enjoy chronic disease management, particularly in helping patients manage common conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia to improve long-term health outcomes.
Q: How do you want patients to feel after they see you?
I want patients to have a positive experience and leave feeling heard and taken seriously, with a clear understanding of their plan and next steps through shared decision-making.
Q: How do you stay current and continue learning?
I stay current by regularly reviewing medical literature, attending conferences, and keeping up to date with clinical guidelines and evidence-based practices.
Q: What is one fact people would be surprised to learn about you?
I have a twin sister!
Q: If you weren’t in medicine, what would you be doing?
I would likely be working in the sports industry in a management or organizational role.
