Meet Carly Babis, Preventive Care and Women’s Health Specialist in Chicago
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in medicine?
My sister’s experience as a patient while we were growing up inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. Seeing medical care from the patient and family perspective showed me how much compassionate, attentive care matters. I saw firsthand how healthcare teams not only treated her medical needs, but also provided reassurance and support during stressful and uncertain moments.
Q: What is your approach to patient care?
A key part of my approach to patient care is building trusting relationships with patients. I believe trust is essential for effective, patient-centered care because it encourages open communication, improves adherence to treatment plans, and helps patients feel comfortable discussing concerns they might otherwise withhold. My goal is to create a supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their healthcare decisions.
Q: What areas of health do you specialize in?
My clinical focus includes women’s health, preventive medicine, and helping patients stay proactive about their long-term health. I enjoy supporting patients through preventive screenings, wellness visits, lifestyle counseling, and overall health maintenance.
Q: How do you want patients to feel after they see you?
I want patients to feel heard, respected, and informed rather than overwhelmed. My goal is for patients to leave appointments with clarity, confidence, and a better understanding of their health.
Q: How do you stay current and continue learning?
I stay current by reading medical journals and learning from conversations with fellow PAs, NPs, and physicians. Healthcare is always evolving, and I enjoy collaborating with colleagues and continuing to learn every day.
Q: What is one fact people would be surprised to learn about you?
I played the trumpet in high school, and “Hot Cross Buns” was my specialty.
Q: If you weren’t in medicine, what would you be doing?
I would probably be an interior designer or a private investigator.
