Preventive health + primary care

Meet James Nee, Preventive Care, Primary Care and Chronic Health Specialist in Chicago

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in medicine?

As a lifelong Chicagoan, I was taught from a young age the importance of giving back to my community. Providing healthcare to people when they need it most has been an incredible honor and privilege, and it’s a responsibility I’m grateful to continue every day.

Q: What is your approach to patient care?

I believe the best healthcare happens when providers and patients work as a team. By listening carefully to each patient’s concerns, understanding their goals and beliefs, and working together, I can provide guidance that’s personalized and grounded in today’s best medical evidence.

Q: What areas of health do you specialize in?

Over the years, I’ve cared for patients of all ages—from children and adolescents to adults and seniors—as well as members of the LGBTQ+ community. My clinical interests include preventive medicine for both men and women, along with managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, obesity, depression, anxiety, and many others.

Q: How do you want patients to feel after they see you?

I want every patient to leave knowing they have a compassionate, knowledgeable physician who truly has their best interests at heart and will be there to support them through both everyday health and life’s unexpected challenges.

Q: How do you stay current and continue learning?

After more than 25 years in medical education, helping train future physicians and healthcare professionals, I know the importance of lifelong learning. I stay current by reading medical journals, attending conferences and educational courses, and collaborating with trusted colleagues to ensure I’m providing evidence-based, up-to-date care.

Q: What is one fact people would be surprised to learn about you?

Outside of medicine, I love getting my hands dirty in the garden and have been learning to play the acoustic guitar for the past several years.

Q: If you weren’t in medicine, what would you be doing?

I’d probably be planting trees or playing guitar at a local coffee shop.
