Primary care + preventive care

Meet Mia Galluch, Primary Care provider in Chicago

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in medicine?
What inspired me to pursue a career in medicine was seeing the difference that good healthcare can make in someone’s life. When a person’s physical and mental health improve, it can have a ripple effect on every aspect of their life—from their relationships, to their work, and overall well-being. I wanted a career where I could build meaningful relationships with people, help them through difficult times, and partner with them to achieve their health goals. Being able to see patients feel better, regain confidence, and get back to doing the things they enjoy is what continues to motivate me every day.

Q: What is your approach to patient care?
My approach to patient care is centered on understanding each patient’s goals, concerns, and priorities. I believe shared decision-making is an important part of providing good care. My role is to provide patients with evidence-based recommendations, explain their options, answer their questions, and make sure they have the information they need to make informed decisions. I also believe that one of the most important parts of being a good clinician is being a good listener. Taking the time to understand a patient’s perspective helps build trust and creates a stronger partnership in their care.

Q: What areas of health do you specialize in?
I am particularly passionate about mental health, women’s health, and preventive medicine. I enjoy helping patients improve their health through early intervention, education, and evidence-based treatment, with the goal of improving their overall quality of life. At the same time, one of the things I value most about primary care is the variety it offers. I enjoy caring for patients with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions and appreciate the opportunity to build long-term relationships with them over time.

Q: How do you want patients to feel after they see you?
I want patients to leave each visit feeling heard, understood, reassured, and hopeful. Many patients present to the healthcare system during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. It is important to me that they feel comfortable sharing their concerns openly and know they have been listened to with empathy and respect. My goal is for every patient to leave with confidence in the plan we have created together and hope for the path ahead.

Q: How do you stay current and continue learning?
While I enjoy staying current with the latest evidence through medical conferences, collaboration with specialists in fields that frequently overlap with primary care, and regularly reviewing recommendations from guideline-producing organizations, I also incorporate continuous learning into my daily practice. I use evidence-based clinical reference platforms on a daily basis and listen to internal medicine and family medicine podcasts each week to stay current with evolving research and best practices. This commitment to lifelong learning allows me to provide my patients with the highest quality, evidence-based care.

Q: What is one fact people would be surprised to learn about you?
One thing that people are often surprised to learn about me is that I love oil painting. I took an oil painting class in college and have continued painting ever since.

Q: If you weren’t in medicine, what would you be doing?
If I weren’t in medicine, I would likely be a marine biologist. I have always loved being outdoors and exploring nature, and I am fascinated by marine life and the diversity of ocean ecosystems.
