Sam Shovers, LCSW, MS, strives to foster a sense of safety and comfort with his patients. Through open communication and honesty comes opportunities for healing, growth, and development. Sam uses a client-centered approach to explore the events, feelings, behaviors, and emotions that you feel comfortable sharing. He empowers patients to use their natural strengths to create a tailored treatment approach.
Sam earned his Bachelor’s degree with majors in both Neuroscience and Africana Studies, along with his Master’s degree in Neuroscience from Tulane University in New Orleans. Inspired by his research regarding the impacts of adverse childhood experiences, trauma, and mental health, he pursued a Master’s of Social Work with a clinical concentration at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Sam has both clinical and research experience in coping with trauma (both complex and PTSD), postpartum depression, anxiety, adversity, and more. He sees adult patients at Innovative Therapy. Drawing from neuroscience and psychotherapy, Sam believes there can be utility and benefits from incorporating ketamine and the Illinois Medical Card into treatment to help alleviate suffering, while promoting healing and growth.
