How it Works

SCHEDULE ONLINE

Ready to lose weight? Let Innovative Primary Care lead the way. We believe medical weight loss should be guided by an expert and closely monitored. Innovative Care accepts insurance for weight loss, and we offer a self-pay option for individuals who can not use medical insurance for weight loss.

FIRST APPOINTMENT

The first visit will be approximately 30 minutes. We’ll focus on health history, weight goals and expectations. We’ll explain how blood sugar regulation leads to weight loss and prescribe GLP medication (Ozempic®, Mounjaro®, Wegovy®, Zepbound®). We always try to use medical insurance for FDA approved weight loss medication before turning to compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide.

MONTHLY CHECK-INS

If your insurance covers weight loss, you will pick up your medication from the pharmacy and see an Innovative Primary Care provider 2x/month via telemedicine to ensure you’re on track. If your insurance denies coverage for weight loss, we will offer you compounded semaglutide for a competitive fee monthly ($350 includes medication and a monthly check-in with a licensed medical provider via telemedicine).

Why choose Innovative Care?

3 reasons to choose our weight loss program over online competitors.

We Source Quality Medication

We work hard to get insurance coverage for FDA approved GLP medications. If your insurance denies coverage, we’ll prescribe high-quality semaglutide from a licensed compounding pharmacy that we trust.

We are a Chicago Medical Group

We are a Chicago medical group with several locations, not one of those online only companies. Enjoy the convenience of online appointments, with the peace of mind of knowing we have a clinic just down the street.

We are Legit Scripts Certified

We prescribe FDA approved injectable GLP medication and offer guidance from our team of weight loss experts. We offer real medications from real providers to help you achieve real results.

GLP (glucagon-like peptide) receptor agonists are a class of medications that have been approved by the FDA for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and for weight loss. These medications work by mimicking the effects of the hormone GLP-1, which is naturally produced in the body to stimulate insulin secretion and suppress appetite. Some examples of GLP receptor agonists include exenatide (Byetta®, Bydureon®), liraglutide (Victoza®, Saxenda®), semaglutide (Ozempic®, Wegovy®) and tirzepatide (Zepbound®, Mounjaro®). These medications can be administered by injection and may be used in combination with other weight loss medications, such as metformin or a sulfonylurea. It’s important to note that these medications are only available by prescription and should be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional.

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptors are a type of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) found on the surface of cells in the pancreas, brain, and gut. When GLP-1 binds to these receptors, it activates a cascade of intracellular signaling pathways that lead to a number of physiological effects.

In the pancreas, GLP-1 binding to its receptors stimulates the secretion of insulin, which helps to lower blood sugar levels. This effect is particularly important in people with type 2 diabetes, as it can improve glucose control and reduce the risk of complications associated with high blood sugar.

In the brain, GLP-1 binding to its receptors can suppress appetite and reduce food intake, which may contribute to weight loss. This effect is thought to be mediated by GLP-1’s ability to inhibit the activity of hypothalamic neurons that promote hunger and to stimulate the activity of neurons that promote satiety.

In the gut, GLP-1 binding to its receptors can slow down the emptying of the stomach, which can also help to reduce food intake and promote weight loss.

GLP-1 receptor agonists are medications that mimic the effects of GLP-1 by binding to and activating the GLP-1 receptors. These medications can be used to treat type 2 diabetes and as an adjunct therapy for weight loss.

Many insurance companies cover weight loss medication, but it is dependent on the plan and the individual. We always try to get insurance to cover weight loss medication for our patients. This includes doing a pre-authorization and appealing when necessary. Unfortunately, this is not always possible. If your insurance plan denies coverage for weight loss, we will prescribe compounded semaglutide or compounded tirzepatide, which is available self-pay ($350/month semaglutide; $500/month tirzepatide). This fee includes seeing a medical provider monthly to ensure you are on track and address any questions you may have. Compounded semaglutide contains the same active ingredient as name-brand weight loss medication Ozempic® and Wegovy®, and compound tirzepatide contains the same active ingredient as brand-name medication Mounjaro® and Zepbound®. If you are prescribed compounded medication, it will be delivered directly to your home.

Compounded Semaglutide contains the same primary ingredient as its name-brand, FDA approved counterparts (GLP-1 medications Wegovy®, Ozempic®), but it is made in a compounding lab.

Compound Tirzepatide contains the same primary ingredient as its name-brand, FDA approved counterparts Mounjaro® and Zepbound®.

The cost of weight loss medication depends on whether or not your insurance plan covers weight loss medication. We always try to use medical insurance first, but we offer patients a self-pay option with compounded medication if insurance denies the request. Compounded semaglutide is $350/month and compounded tirzepatide is $500/month. The cost includes your medication and a telemedicine visit with your provider.

Yes, we are only licensed in Illinois and therefore can only see Illinois residents.

We do not offer any of the above mentioned products, anyone seeking said products should discuss options with their licensed healthcare provider or pharmacist. Wegovy® (semaglutide) and Ozempic® (semaglutide) are not compounded. Wegovy® (semaglutide) is FDA-approved for weight loss. Ozempic® (semaglutide) is FDA-approved for type 2 diabetes treatment but may be prescribed off-label for weight loss at a healthcare provider’s discretion. A healthcare provider may prescribe a compounded drug if determined that it is medically appropriate and necessary for you.

Innovative Care exclusively offers compounded medications, which are made in State Board of Pharmacy licensed sterile compounding pharmacies, or FDA-licensed 503(b) Outsourcing Facilities. While these facilities are strictly regulated, the compounded medications they make are not FDA-approved, as they are compounded based on an individual provider’s prescription for a specified patient. Strength, dose, route of administration, and other variables may make compounded medications different from FDA-approved drugs which makes directly comparing results & risk profile between FDA-approved drugs and compounded drugs difficult. Any compounded drugs prescribed are based on a licensed provider’s medical judgement based on a telehealth encounter and medical history. Innovative Care does not claim any affiliation with, or endorsement from, the above mentioned products or entities. Prescription products require an online consultation with a healthcare provider who will determine if a prescription is appropriate.

Weight loss medications are prescribed based on what your provider determines is medically appropriate and necessary for you. This may include prescribing generic drug products, and/or compounded products if appropriate and necessary. Compounded drug products are not approved nor evaluated for safety, efficacy, or quality by FDA. Medications are part of the Innovative Care Weight Loss program, which also includes a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity.

GLP-1 receptor agonists—including semaglutide, liraglutide, dulaglutide, and tirzepatide—have been prescribed (on-and-off label) for weight management, including obesity, along with a reduced caloric diet and increased physical activity. Take precaution with, and read all warnings concerning, GLP-1s, as they may cause serious side effects, including a risk of thyroid c-cell tumors. Do not use if you or your family have a history of a type of thyroid cancer called MTC (medullary thyroid carcinoma) or MEN 2 (multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome).
